50,000 Miles

It has been almost 2 months since I wrote a post... There is no excuse for this except that I things have been difficult for me in some ways… However, in my last post I wrote that I had put on 30,000 miles on my truck and had hoped to watch it roll over to 50,000 miles.. Which I was able to watch it roll… I even remember where I was when it did.. I was on I-80 East bound in Nevada at mile marker 333… Deeth Valley…

In the next two weeks, I will be putting on another 10,000 miles as I will be teaming with another driver from my work… His wife is taking some time to be with their son who needs her at home… It will be a busy two weeks but I promise, I will catch up with everything soon… I will go back over the last 2 months and move forward… Please keep checking back…

Over 30,000 Miles

I have put over 30,000 miles on my truck since getting it in April… I spent the day today washing it, sweeping, mopping and shining it up… When I got the truck, it had 3085 miles on it..

I was able to watch it turn over thirty thousand miles… I hope I will be able to catch it when it flips over 50,000… I’m into numbers… What can I say…

I got in to Reno on Saturday and spent today doing laundry, and cleaning the truck…  Tomorrow I will find out what I will be doing… I will get my groceries on my way into the yard tomorrow…

Things are looking UP!

It has been a most fantastic day… I am beginning to get out of the slump I have been in… In fact, I think I may have beaten it… It’s been a rough and busy month… I know part of the reasoning for my slump… And I wish not to share at this point and time.. Let’s just say, that I have learned a very valuable lesson in life…  One I already knew, but chose to ignore… And I paid the consequences dearly…

I am in Washington… It’s a very beautiful state… Not hot but not raining either…  I delivered 3 stops… The first was in Federal Way… Next dropped the stop in Auburn… We drop the paint there and ship it to Alaska… Wouldn’t that be a trip if I could deliver it personally…???  I could maybe audition for Ice Road Truckers… NOT..!!!  What a blast to dream…

Anyway, I am waiting in Sumner for my backhaul… Not ready yet so here I sit… Decided I had better get busy and write a few lines… I wonder if anyone reads these posts…???  Not sure, but it is a way to write down what I do to keep a record… People have asked why I’m doing this… And I answer… To write a book…  tell a story…. and keep somewhat of a record… Besides the fact that it gives me something to do and talk about…

I meet the most interesting and fantastic people… I truly do enjoy my job, even though it can be hectic at times and sometimes very frustrating… But the good days far out weigh the bad ones…

“Begin with Yes”

“Now it’s time for you to say “YES” to yourself – You are doing the best you can – If you could do better, you would… so chill. Be as kind to yourself as you are to so many others. And if you find yourself feeling badly – get outside and walk around smiling at strangers. Works every time!”

Author Paul Boynton, “Begin With Yes” had these words of wisdom for me…  I have been feeling down for the last couple of weeks… I have had a lot of things going on in my life, and feeling a bit overwhelmed… I found this book a couple of months ago, and ordered 2 copies right off the bat…

Of course, I got in touch with Paul and told him that I thought it was a great book… He returned a reply… To my surprise… So I reached out to him about my sadness to which he again replied the quote above… Thanks, Paul… More >

Trucking Made Perfect!

Last week I had the opportunity to be reacquainted after 30 plus years with my former 9th grade English teacher and his lovely wife of 42 years..

If it wasn’t for the fact that I became a truck driver and started this website, I don’t think I would have ever seen him again… Mr. Mathis knew how to teach…

He taught me and 3 of my other siblings… And they loved him too… (Well, at least the girls… My brother might have a different view…)  He made you love Shakespeare… And better yet, you could understand it… LOL!!

During the poetry, and creative writing sessions, he would play his guitar and sing while the students wrote and poured their hearts out…  He was definitely a great teacher… And I am writing this website in order to be able to keep a journal of my trucking days so that I can someday put together the story and book of the Truck Driving Mama…  More >

“O Canada, O Canada”

I am once again sitting in Canada… I called dispatch Friday morning to see what was available… “I have an easy run for you. It has 2 stops.”  “Great”, I said, “Where?”  “Canada”  he said…  Oh brother, I thought… Stomach started churning immediately…

Anyway, I had been to both of the stops, so this has been a nice trip… I was able to get up here to Canada before the store closed on Sunday… I have already unloaded my first stop… Now, I am sitting at the second stop in the dock… Waiting till morning to get unloaded…

Then I will get back on the interstate, head south, across the border and be back on American soil before 9AM… I will then call dispatch for my back haul and will be back in Reno by Tuesday… Sounds good EH??? Yes and no…

Only down fall is, today is Mother’s Day… I miss my girls… I don’t have my phone on up here and I don’t have the internet so I am cut off from the world at the moment… (I am writing this again on word processor)… Maybe feeling a little sorry for myself… Or maybe just too much time on my hands to think… Again, of all the things that I am going to have to do at the end of the month… More >

A Visit to Salt Lake and more

On April 20th I went to Salt Lake City and delivered 4 stores. I was able to see my Mom, sister and her husband… My sister and brother-in-law is going on a mission to Peru… It was nice to see them…  It had been a while since I had seen them.. I have gotten through Salt Lake but wasn’t able to stop…

Pictured on the right is the famed Cement Tree… When I was younger and I think it was back in the 80’s a man decided there was nothing to look at on the salt flats so he built this 2 million dollar eye sore… I would have used the money in a different way, but I guess to each his own…

The picture on the left was taken by another driver while I was driving from Salt Lake back to Reno… There was 2 flatbed trucks that flew by me… I knew they were talking on the CB so I decided to eaves drop… Shame on me, Right???  Anyway, When the lead driver went by, I noticed that he had his phone pointed at me… I over heard the drivers talking about taking my picture… I then had to let them know that they had been busted and that I was eaves  dropping on them…

I wasn’t too far from Fernley where I was going to get fuel… The drivers also stopped at the truck stop so I was able to meet them… Later, I was able to add the one driver to my facebook account and got the picture from him that he had taken… Just another day on the road… It’s days like this that makes things fun once in a while… More >
